Modern F1 is just a procession now, like most racing categories. Making corners faster DOES NOT make for better racing. Terrible track and there are no hero corners in Melbourne Skaife. Modern race track design is pathetic.

I don't know how it will go we'll see I'm sure it will be fine. I actually liked in F1 game navigating Turns 9 and 10 it was fun. 13 I'm okay with widening it I would like if they widened 14 as well. T9 and 10 is basically the corner cut route now available LOL. Kinda sad too because now my favorite tack will no longer have my favorite F1 driver's race lap record after all these years. Oh well.

All well and good, but Bahrain is the best track to open the season based on what we saw this year, with record viewers. A power circuit with a technical Sector 2 - there is no hiding on where the teams stand after the winter testing sandbags are removed. Melbourne down under end of the year is good enough.

Sorry but turn 1, 3, 6 and 15 why? Why these turns need to be faster? Changing turn 1 ruins the flow of 1 and 2 and you take away the hard breaking zone for an overtake. Turn 3 you ruin the overtake chance. When you now defend in turn 1, you have a bad position for turn 2, which makes an overtake attempt for turn 3 very likely. Turn 6 is the same like 1 and 2 speaking of the flow. 9 and 10 would make sense when you change 11 and 12 from fast to slow and create a hard breaking zone with a tight 11. 15 some say so, others say so. Only turn 13 makes sense for me. It is a bit longer and the turn is tighter. Don't get me wrong, I like the track and the GP. But I think it is a mistake to change the track this much. Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think so.

      2 maanden geleden

@M L yeah, and reprofiled a couple of corners on silverstone in 2019. They have kind of reintroduced alternative designs to grade 1 / grade 2 tracks, at least, they provide much more radical designs than tilke. I don’t think the albert park redesign was conducted by them as an aside but I think they could have been inspired to use faster layouts because of dromo’s use of banking at zandvoort. It’s not to the same degree of course but more tracks are noticing that people want tracks to be faster and less cookie cutter-like.

Funny enough dromo kind of does that, but the only major tilke circuit they’ve touched was sepang. All for this adoption of machine learning combined with track design though, it just makes sense. We don’t need new tracks in the world we just need to make existing ones better.

I'm all for it if it will help improve overtaken because Australia has been a snoozefest for a while now. The season openers in Bahrain have been more exciting. I really hope they can make Australia exciting. I feel that F1 should do a better job with choosing tracks and the people that build them need to do an even better job by making tracks that fit F1 better. They could also adapt Abu Dhabi a bit imo to make it more exciting. I don't even think you need to rebuild that much on that track. I've seen that there's loads of space next to the straights. So they could easily just change the way some curbs lay on there and create new corners.

Hopefully they have learnt from other tracks now and make overtaking possible. But most importantly they 'rubber in' the track with enough races before the F1 race. We have all seen the results when tracks resurface don't do that and the problems it causes. As a Brit, we always want a Brit to win the races, but that's one race I'd be happy to watch Daniel win.

@wellemi1001 so, do normal cars use the same tires as race cars???? The compounds are different, drag cars do burn outs before a race to one, warm up the tires, two to allow better grip on the start. The same is true with race cars, but more important at the high speed corners, the more 'rubber' laid down allows the driver to push harder through the corners as they have better grip. This does not happen with normal road tires, which is why a lot of races have the f3 races take place before hand, as they lay the rubber down, before the faster F1 cars race.

So a lot of these comments seem to be full of uncertainty and trepidation, and indeed, one might have to worry we'll get a race made worse. I never have found Melbourne (or Monaco) boring, and personally, I feel it is a sign of a underdeveloped understanding of F1 when people who seem to think that wheel to wheel means great racing, make such ignorant comments........ .....HOWEVER, I will sooth what concerns I can by saying this was done on the back of some intensive modelling, aiming to improve things like overtaking and wheel to wheel racing, to appeal to the Luddites who cannot appreciate the circuits that are about strategy, opportunity and the long game, to be ABLE to race wheel to wheel.... which on both Melbourne and Monaco, you CAN, IF you earn it... which seems boring to the simplistic, but far more enjoyable to those who appreciate what they're seeing......and more, for those who may not know, Mark Skaife was one of the greatest racing drivers in Australian history, and one of the worlds best touring car drivers, and KNOWS racing, so his involvement in the project should certainly assuage any concerns you all have.

@Apis4 I understand and you're right. But once I was resident in Oz, taking on following the V8 supercars, I felt was part of immersion into Aussie culture. This was in part facilitated by their having a race in Canberra, where I lived for a time with my Aussie girlfriend. But I am a country boy by heart, so we moved to the Bega Valley. Go Holden/Ford, neither of whom sadly produce cars in Oz anymore, I gather. Big fan of the Barra engine.

@Alex Veldhuis He's a racing driver, here in Audtralia, he's a 5 x V8 Supercar Champion, and six time Bathurst 1000 winner. He only retired about 10 years or so ago, so you must be young.

@Salt AU Max owned his ass that last year, he was faster in every session that year. Scored more wins in those three years and more podiums. Thats why Ricciardo ran away to Renault. Very weak of him, i'm happy he ruined his carreer by running away. Hopefully Lando crushes him too, just like Max did.

@M L Ricciardo schooled Verstappen 2-1 over 3 years together champ, it would have been 3 - 0 if Ricciardo didn't set a record for the most DNFs in an F1 season. Daniel comprehensively trounced him.

Lando has more talent as Ricciardo has. Also since Ricciardo ran away from the battle with Max he never had a chance of winning a race again. In fact it killed his carreer.

I wouldn't hold your breath, with the slow vaccine rollout mandatory hotel quarantine isn't going to be lifted anytime soon, so it may still not take place this year.

@Cricket England never going to happen. South Australia's government recently pulled funding from the Supercars race and the Motorsports festival, plus you couldn't run it with the classic layout anyway because they've cut off traffic access to some of the old track. All done to appease the rich locals that live around the circuit.

best improvement they could have made is just to move the race back to the street circuit in Adelaide....

@Baz828 I'm a bit pessimistic about this tbh - if they're not changing the profile of 11 and 12 there's not much of a braking zone, and trying to get off-line to pass through 9 and 10 (even assuming it's DRS) looks hard. Happy to trust the tweaks they're making to other corners, just... not sure about this one.

Yes, T9 is gone as is T10's original profile, T9 will be more high right bend, before going in slight left were T10 was, allowing for better chances for over taking at T11 and T12.

@b&srbck the original comment was poking fun at Istanbul 2020 i.e it wasn't meant to be taken literally. Your reply described everything literally as to why the joke wasn't true when in fact it's a joke, so of course it's not true. We can see they are resurfacing the track now, but the point of the joke was to poke fun at Istanbul 2020 and you seemed to miss that
