It is obvious that is hard to compare eras in sports and pick a goat. But we humans always tend to bring a goat regardless of time. F1 nowadays, let's say the past 20-25 years is more about the car and not the driver. Technology has changed F1 drastically, for better or worse (imo for worse). I love to see competition in racing, its the real and true essence of racing. It should be more about the driver than the car. F1 nowadays is a non competitive racing series, were only 2 or 3 teams can challenge for wins and the title. Which translates to 2 or 3 drivers only. And as of late, past 6 years is more about one team and one driver. Lewis definitely has his name sealed in history and nobody can take that away. But I personally think he didn't earned it by pure talent and skill (which he does have) but more so because he has had the only car capable of winning. I've said it before with all due respect to Lewis that half the current grid can easily win races and the title if they were driving Lewis' car. I think there are more talented drivers than Lewis currently. But they don't look as good or talented because they don't have a car to compete. So ultimately in my opinion and of course you don't have to agree, but if we have to pick a goat in F1 that would only be one driver that comes to mind and no other driver in history comes close to him...Ayrton Senna. He is the goat of F1 in my opinion. When F1 was still more about the driver than the car.

I didn’t see him race as I was too young. But from what I heard more and more. I think Senna was the greatest ever. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton would be 2nd and 3rd.

Can't Run or Hide from it, 1, He is the 1st and only Black Driver in F1........... 2, When it comes to Lewis, The Debate is he actually that Good, or is it that Mercedes Petronas Car is Doing all the work, Basically a lot of Critics say the Latter, 1 automotive Manufacturer I Respect in F1 is HONDA They are Deadly Good !!! Mercedes is in for a Good Fight this 2021 Season & I regrettably believe that HONDA Has a Damm Good Chance of Dethroning Mercedes, But Red Bull is Good but I still believe not as Good as Mercedes, Last 2 races Mercedes as a whole team & driver made mistakes, If Lewis wins this Championship, They will have to eat Crow and shut up & Crown him 1 of the Greatest F1 Drivers in the World, I would say Top 10 at least, Let's talk about it after the 2021 season is Over !!!!!! 👋😎

Giving him that title would be a truly ridiculous statement to make. Lewis is a VERY VERY LUCKY driver who happened to be in the right car and team at the right time in the sense that Mercedes had acquired more experience in hybrid technology than other manufacturers. Don't get me wrong, he is a great driver but nowhere near to being the greatest. What happened was that the more he won in his car, the more self confidence he gained and thus that kinda helped him become better. He was also aided by the fact that he has had not such brilliant teammates except for Rosberg who is a top tier driver. What happened then? Nico won. But Bottas isn't, so that's why Hamilton has won 7 titles but to he honest he is nowhere near the skill level of the GOD Of F1 : Ayrton Senna or the all time greats : Prost, Piquet, Mansell, Lauda, Hunt, Fittipaldi, Schumacher Or the Prodigies like : Verstappen I would put him as an A tier who became S Tier level driver same category as Vettel, Alonso, Rosberg, Hakkinen, Raikkonen.

i think when you talk about greatest ever f1 driver you can tackle this question in two ways: you can either look at the total numbers of championships, wins, fastest laps etc etc OR you can take the peak period of a certain driver and compare it in terms of other factors with the peak period of other great drivers. These factors can be: how focused they are, how aggressive, how much faster and so on. so, sure, if you want to go by the numbers you would need to put LH above MSC and so on. but if you go by that second way to look at "greatest driver ever" then its no coincidence that Senna is still viewed as greatest ever. for me personally, i actually really dont know, you could make a case for either of these three and i would agree with you.

Lack of challenges should not be discounted out.... Unlike other former champions, Hamilton had little to no challenge to make all those records or championship wins.... Having a dominant car aside, having no rival car or rival inside the team should simply also be kept I mind... which makes any accomplishments by Hamilton since his Mercedes stint questionable...

Lewis could be a GOAT, but you can't really tell when he drives (and wins) with the best car all the times. Both Senna and Schumacher at times drove inferior cars, and managed to win against the odds. That's what made them stick out, IMO.

Lewis Hamilton has called for the statues with any link to racism in Britain to be pulled down - from the luxury of his Monaco mansion. What this odious tax-dodger won't tell you is that the company that pays his multi-million pound annual salary made a fortune from Jewish slave labour during World War 2 - just 75 years ago. And many of those Jewish slaves were later sent to concentration camps - where they met their deaths in horrific circumstances. Hugo Boss made the Nazi uniforms, Volkswagen & Audi both used Jewish slave labour and produced military vehicles during the war. If you want to jetwash Western history, don't forget about the individuals and corporations that pay your bloated salary - otherwise you look like a whiny, over-privileged hypocrite.

@FriousBlackPanther You have couple of examples like that in indycar. In F1, its every other champion. You have 6 different champions in indycar in the past decade. In F1 you have 3. And 9 of those championships were taken by only 2 drivers in the past decade. And mostly in a row as well. Because in F1 the machinery is the dominant force. Indycar is closer.

I think what's worth considering is that there were times where F1 drivers' lives were literally in danger every single GP they entered. There were also no run off areas, so even just one mistake of leaving the track, could have cost you the race. These combined require a completely different mindset. And then comes on top the difficult handling of the cars. So while you cannot say, who's the best of all times, it would be interesting to see if today's pilots could handle the same pressure.

@MrDb1973 absolutely right. In boxing you also have Lennox Lewis, Pacquiao, Klitschko Brothers etc. so impossible to say this is The GOAT. Same thing in football, i hate it when people say Ronaldo or Messi is the best when in football you have goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and attackers within the same team and they also have divisions within their positions too like left back, attacking midfielder, playmaker, winger etc. I don't get why people are too fascinated by choosing just one name.
